Abbreviations
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)
Definitions
- Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL)
- Confined to heart and pericardium without extracardiac disease
- Rare; majority occur in patients with HIV/AIDS
- Secondary cardiac lymphoma (SCL)
- Cardiac involvement in patients with systemic lymphoma
- ~ 1/3 of patients with lymphoma develop secondary cardiac lymphoma (pathology series)
- Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL)
- Rare; HIV-associated NHL
- Lymphomatous growth in liquid phase in body cavities, such as pericardium
- Evidence of infection by human herpesvirus-8, which is associated with Kaposi sarcoma
- Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL)
