Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Definitions
DVT: Condition by which blood changes from liquid to solid state and produces blood clot (thrombus) within deep venous system, typically in lower limbs
Can also be seen in upper limbs (especially related to central venous catheters)
Pulmonary embolism (PE): Obstruction of pulmonary artery or one of its branches by embolic thrombus (ET), usually blood clot originating from thrombosis of leg veins
Venous thromboembolism (VTE): DVT and ET, related aspects of same disease process
