Definitions
For this text, the hand will be defined as beginning at the carpometacarpal joint
In anatomic position, the hand is in supination
Radial: Toward radius and synonymous with lateral(ly)
Ulnar: Toward ulna and synonymous with medial(ly)
Mesial: Toward midline of structure
3rd digit is midline of hand and therefore the most mesial structure
2nd and 4th digits are more mesial than 1st and 5th digits
Abduction is motion away from midline of structure
Adduction is motion towards midline of structure
