          TERMINOLOGY

          • Definitions

            • Sarcoidosis arthropathy has 2 principal manifestations: acute (resolving/remitting) and chronic (transient/relapsing)
              • Acute sarcoidosis arthropathy
                • Usually is self-limiting, remitting in 4-6 weeks
                • Löfgren syndrome is variant of acute sarcoidosis arthropathy
                  • Remitting oligoarthropathy
                  • Manifests early in course of sarcoidosis
                  • Arthralgias (often bilateral ankles), erythema nodosum, bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy
                • Disease clusters are seen in spring/early summer
              • Chronic relapsing sarcoidosis arthropathy
                • Observed ≥ 6 months following diagnosis of sarcoidosis
                • Disease may wax and wane
